Development Vision 2025 Tanzania is a long-term development philosophy that is the articulation of a desirable future condition, which the nation envisages it will attain, and of the plausible course
of action to be taken for its achievement. It seeks to mobilize the people and other resources towards the achievement of shared goals, an inspiration for motivating the people to search and work
harder for the betterment of their livelihood and for prosperity.
A High Quality of Livelihood is the first target for the Vision 2025 and this involves among other goals:
- Food self-sufficiency and food security
- Gender equality
- Access to primary health care for all
- Absence of abject poverty
There is no doubt that NGOs (non governmental organizations, e.g., Caritas-DSM) have a role to play in the improvement of the livelihoods of the Tanzanians. By their nature NGOs have a potentially
trans formative role to play in strengthening Civil society, providing space for women, youth, the poor and other disadvantaged groups to organize themselves around their own concerns and challenge
the status quo.
NB: The above is quoted from the Political Handbook & NGO Calendar 2002 Tanzania, published by the United Nations.
